What does it take to change the heart of a person? That’s the question we asked ourselves here at Car Angel, and ever since then we’ve been working to make those changes come to fruition.

The U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics states that there were 2,135,901 inmates who roamed the halls of our prisons in 2004. The majority of them will eventually be released only to return to their previous lives of crime. In 2002, only 45% of parole participants successfully completed their parole. The rest were rearrested or disappeared into society. Many of those that complete their parole don’t even stay out of prison for very long afterward.

That’s why Car Angel stepped up and started making a difference. We release a new book into the prisons every year that encourages criminals to make a change. Instead of telling them they’re worthless, like the world they live in does, these books tell them that they CAN change their lives and become a productive member of society. Inmates are faced with the reality of the situations they’ve put themselves in but are given hope that they can change the path they’re on.

So far, these books have made a huge difference. Taxpayers have saved an estimated $160,000,000 a year thanks to our books and letters from chaplains and inmates alike pour into Car Angel and confirm the changes that are being made.
